Twenty years behind the counter

For twenty years our family has run a gold loan firm in Suntikoppa, a small town in Kodagu. Registers, pledge cards, interest worked out by hand — the same way most firms in Karnataka still run today.

The registers worked, until they didn't. A missed compounding here, a mislaid pledge card there, customers calling to ask their balance while the counter was busy. Software built for city NBFCs never fit — too costly, too complicated, and none of it calculated interest the way a pawnbroker's register actually does.

So we built our own. Loan by loan, correction by correction, GoldKhata took shape behind our counter — tested every single day on real pledges, real customers, real inspections. The interest engine matches the register to the rupee, because our own money depended on it.

Now the same system runs for other firms. When you call support, you don't reach a call centre — you reach people who took pledges that morning and know exactly why a delivery register matters.
